Manipur Unrest Escalates: Curfew Imposed Amid Intense Protests

Published:

The government of Manipur has imposed an indefinite curfew in Imphal’s eastern and western districts due to rising protests. Student-led protests have escalated as they seek the resignation of high-ranking police officers and the central government’s security advisor, accusing the administration of failing to manage ethnic violence.

Protester-police battles have injured over 50 students and killed at least 11. For student safety, the central government has closed schools and institutions in Manipur due to the escalating crisis.

Narendra Modi and his government are under fire. Shiv Sena leaders, including Sanjay Raut, have accused Modi of ignoring home issues to focus on overseas crises. Raut wants Modi to personally address Manipur’s crisis.

Christian and other minority populations have suffered the most from the upheaval. Fires in villages and churches have forced thousands of residents to flee. Continued violence highlights the necessity for strong involvement to restore peace and stability in the region.

The curfew underlines the gravity of this dilemma and the difficulties of handling and resolving it in Manipur. As the state attempts to recover control and address the root causes of the disturbance, the government’s response will be widely observed.
