Catastrophic Floods in Japan: Six Lives Lost Amidst Record Rainfall

Published:

Rain has caused disastrous floods and landslides in Japan, killing six and left ten missing in Ishikawa prefecture. The Saturday-to-Monday deluge slammed Wajima and Suzu, still recuperating from a January earthquake, hardest.

Local reports say some cities received twice normal September rainfall in one weekend. Rivers overflowed, burying roads and isolating nearly 100 towns. A construction worker repairing roads, two old men, and a lady were found dead near a landslide in Wajima.

Japanese meteorologists issued a life-threatening notice for the region, later lowered but still urged caution due to heavy rainfall. Video shows Wajima streets covered in floodwaters, which have flooded temporary housing for earthquake victims.

About 4,000 families have lost electricity, and over 40,000 people have been evacuated from Ishikawa and adjacent areas. This disaster reminds us of nature’s destructive power and the need for community resilience.
