North Korea’s Nuclear Threats Growing Ahead of US Election, South Korea Issues Stark Warning

Published:

Seoul believes that Pyongyang may carry out substantial provocations sometime before November 5 and has not ruled out a possible nuclear test and a long-range missile launch. This is so when lately North Korea revealed a clandestine nuclear complex that escalated tensions in the region.

Yoon further said that North Korea is going to grab the world’s attention with their nuclear site, especially Washington, as the US election is around the corner. He also added that more provocations including nuclear and missile tests could be in the offing.

Recently, tensions have escalated in Korea where the young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has recently threatened to bomb South Korea using nuclear weapons. The North also carries on with seeing its missile capacity that is a cause of concern in the global community.

Most analysts agree that Kim Jong Un plans to prolong the nuclear crisis in order to bargain with the next U.S. administration. Experts in the media believe that North Korea might prefer Trump because the former president directly communicated with Kim while Harris has condemned Trump’s policies on Kim.

The revelation of North Korea’s nuclear site on September 13 proved Kim’s continue disruption of efforts to contain the country’s nuclear program. This is the first time since 2010, that the North Korea has advertised a place to enrich the weapons grade uranium underlining its nuclear face.

President Yoon also said that South Korea is watching North Korea’s actions with the assistance of intelligence and surveillance from the United States. Though Yoon did not elaborate on how North Korea is preparing for a nuclear ord missile test the South Korean government is still on alert.

Since the inauguration of the Yoon government in 2022, South Korea has been building on the military cooperation with the U.S. to cope with the increasing nuclear menace from the North. He has also enhanced relations with Japan to cement a better nascent security alliance, which equally has raised the hackles of North Korea.

Nevertheless, it appears that regardless of the result of the US election, Yoon is quite optimistic about the continuation of the strategic partnership between Seoul and Washington, as well as its support among both parties, Democratic and Republican.

North Korea had in the past dismissed assertions that its nuclear weapons were aimed at South Korea but Yoon said this has been proven now to be a lie.
