For the 2025–2026 academic year, the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation is offering fully financed scholarships to support graduate study in Japan.
Students can apply for this award at the master’s or doctoral level from almost any academic field. Since there is no application fee, any international student enrolled in a graduate program in Japan can apply. The foundation is dedicated to helping students from a variety of backgrounds who have the capacity to lead in the future and promote the peaceful advancement of international society.

Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicant must not hold Japanese citizenship.
- The student must be enrolled, or planning to enrol, in a graduate program at a Japanese graduate school starting in September or October 2025. This includes both students who are already enrolled and those who are not yet enrolled, as well as individuals currently employed who will be starting their studies in September or October 2025.
- Students who will be entering graduate schools in Spring 2025 should apply for the 2025 program, which will accept applications from September 1 to October 31, 2025 (tentative).
- Generally, students enrolling in professional graduate schools are not eligible. However, those who can provide a research plan may apply.
- The duration of enrollment until graduation must exceed 12 months.
- Applicants for the PhD program must begin their PhD studies by the age of 35, and those applying for the Master’s program must start their Master’s studies by the age of 30. No exceptions are allowed for these age limits.
- The applicant must have a strong commitment to serving in their home country as part of their future career plans.
- The student must demonstrate a deep understanding of international friendship and goodwill, actively participate in events organised by the foundation, and engage in the alumni network.
- The applicant must be proficient in conversational Japanese, as interviews will be conducted in Japanese without exception.
