A fully financed international exchange program in the United States, the Reagan Fascell Democracy Fellowship is intended for mid-career professionals, journalists, civil society leaders, activists, and intellectuals from all over the world. During their five-month stay at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in Washington, D.C., participants get the chance to independently investigate topics pertaining to democracy in a particular nation or area.
A monthly stipend, meals, lodging, round-trip airfare, access to a fully furnished office, local transportation, health insurance, and other benefits are all included in the fellowship package. Through this program, professionals and academics will have a rare opportunity to interact with a global network of democracy advocates and broaden their understanding of democratic practices.

Two Tracks of the Reagan Fascell Democracy Fellowship:
- Practitioners Track
- Scholars Track
Practitioners Track: This track is designed for individuals from developing countries who seek to enhance their strategies for promoting democratic values and practices. It is ideal for mid-career professionals with several years of experience in democracy or human rights work. There are no specific educational degree requirements or age limits for applicants to this track.
Scholars Track: This track is tailored for individuals with a strong academic background in democracy studies. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, have a proven record of publications, and propose a well-defined research project related to democratic development.
Eligibility Criteria:
- must prove that they are fluent in English.
- Project proposals must address the legal, cultural, political, social, and economic facets of democratic progress.
- The applicant must be available to participate for the whole five-month fellowship period, which falls between October 1 and February 28 and March 1 and July 31.
Regarding the Practitioner Path:
- Candidates must be professionals in the middle of their careers who have gained substantial experience in advancing human rights or democracy in their home country or a country of interest.
Regarding the Scholarly Path:
- Doctorates are required, as is a track record of publications in the applicant’s discipline, and a comprehensive research plan for the fellowship project must be submitted.
