The latest Swedish media reports of rape charges against French soccer star Kylian Mbappé have been labelled by his representative as “completely false and irresponsible.” The allegations came to light after several Swedish media outlets alleged that Mbappé was ‘suspected on reasonable grounds’ of rape after visiting a nightclub and a hotel in Stockholm on October 10.
Swedish police have for instance said that there are ‘reasonable grounds’ to believe that there are particular conditions that link the person to a crime. But the prosecutor’s office has not provided any name in their reports.
Mbappé dismissed the claims in a usual fashion that anything of such nature is fake news through his social media platforms. His representative also said that Mbappé will not allow his image to be dragged through the mud by lies and that the necessary legal actions will be taken against those who spread such claims.
The French tabloid published the accusations and his lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, went on French television to call the reports “a slanderous denunciation”. She pointed out that Mbappé is not affected by the media circus, and he is still training as any normal footballer would.
Canu-Bernard insisted that there is a complaint and nobody claimed that gave an individual who filed the complaint is guilty of anything. She said that she did not understand why the media was acting in such a manner, saying that the accusations made are baseless.
Mbappé, who is one of the leading football stars globally, was in Stockholm during the past week but has not featured in the recent UEFA Nations League games for France. Within his legal crew, strategies are being drawn to make the legal action needed to defend his reputation and fight the rumors that are built against him.
