The University of Buffalo Scholarships, which provide opportunities to pursue graduate degrees at the State University of New York, are open to applicants from abroad. At the State University of New York, Buffalo, the University of Buffalo provides PhD and MS possibilities in computational hydrology. Under the direction of Dr. Yifan Cheng, the newly formed Actionable Computational Terrestrial Hydrology Lab (a.c.t. hydro lab) is looking for motivated students to pursue MS or PhD degrees in Geological Sciences with an emphasis on computational hydrology.
In order to improve the relevance and usability of its data and models, the lab works with social scientists, business leaders, and local communities. It also creates numerical models to evaluate the resilience of the water sector under climate change, with a focus on cold regions.
Eligibility Criteria:
- a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, statistics, earth and atmospheric science, civil engineering, environmental engineering, or hydrology.
- strong ability to analyze and solve problems.
- expertise in data analysis and coding (Python, Fortran, C++, etc.).
- exceptional communication skills both in writing and speaking.advanced standing in a relevant discipline.
- familiarity with hydrologic models with a physical foundation.
- a passion for multidisciplinary research with experts in hydrology and associated water sectors, as well as practical science.
- It is very ideal to have past research expertise in related subjects and programming language proficiency.
