India Crush Australia by 295 Runs, Take 1-0 Lead in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Published:

India played a powerhouse to overcome Australia by a record 295 runs in the first test match of Border- Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. Indian Test team vice-captain for this match, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, showed a fantastic performance to defend the Indian team through his both innings fast bowling and scalping eight wickets of the English team, he won the Player of the Match award.

India’s bowlers came into their own in the second Australian innings, claiming three wickets apiece in Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, while the match was wrapped up by Harshit Rana after trapping Alex Carey on 36. Australia was all out for 238 on the fourth day which gave India a massive victory.

The visitors arrived in the series on the back of a shocking home series loss to New Zealand and without its regular captain Rohit Sharma. But Bumrah include the team and actually focused on the game and helped the team. ‘I must admit the team did really well,’ said Bumrah. Many a time we remained upbeat and confident in our performance. Another win is the chance to try to accomplish a special something.

India’s response finally began on the third day when they were all out for a paltry 150 on a green top wicket. In response, Bumrah destroyed the Australia batting line up, returning with the receipt of five Australian wickets and only managing to score 104.

India then came out to bat in their second essay and piled on an enormous heap which Australia could have never chase. The bowlers made sure there would be no fight back as they upped the ante even further.

Australian captain Pat Cummins accepted that his side was under pressure and had a bad day in the field, and said, “It was one of those games where not much went right. There is need to correct some of these and enhance in the future.”

It was a good beginning for India in the five-match series and now Australia is under great pressure. The hosts have only done this previous over 50 years ago when they lost the first Test before going on to win a series.

India’s dominating victory does more than establish the momentum in the upcoming five match series; it marks their return to form in the more traditional five-day format of the game after a couple of losses.
