Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa AI4D Africa Scholarship 2025 | Fully Funded

Do you have a strong interest in AI and machine learning? The 2025 AI4D Africa Scholarship Program is now accepting applications!

Funding of up to $41,500 is available to applicants of the **AI4D Africa Scholarship** (Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa). Tuition, research fees, and travel expenses to the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) are all covered by this grant.

Important information: The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) are the scholarship’s funders.

Its main objective is to assist female candidates in sub-Saharan Africa.

PhD candidates in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) are eligible for funding.

Research in AI and ML is being done by early career academics.

Research initiatives need to focus on one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Eligibility Criteria :

  • In addition to having finished their courses and research proposal, applicants must already be enrolled in an AI-related program (such as machine learning, expert systems, natural language processing, intelligent robots, etc.) under a supervisor.
  • The application must be accompanied by a copy of their PhD admission letter and a letter of support from their supervisor.
  • Candidates should exhibit drive and dedication to pursuing an academic career in addition to having solid academic credentials.
  • Candidates must be fluent in either Portuguese or French, the language of instruction at their host university.
  • Candidates must be citizens or long-term inhabitants of a sub-Saharan African nation that qualifies.

  • Collaborative Learning and Networking: Scholars and AI innovation hubs throughout the continent will have the chance to network and learn from one another.
