Southern Illinois University’s Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab is looking for a strong MS or PhD candidate to start in the fall of 2025. The chosen applicant will work on a project that aims to create, test, and apply several techniques to evaluate the density of white-tailed deer in Illinois’s diverse landscapes.
The student will be supervised by Drs. Brent Pease and Guillaume Bastille-Rousseau at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is a partner in this initiative.
Eligibility Criteria :
- Possess a strong academic record and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or Master of Science (MSc) in biology, ecology, wildlife ecology, or a closely related field for PhD applicants.
- Excellent quantitative abilities and familiarity with R and ArcGIS/Pro applications are required.
- ideally possess previous knowledge of road surveys, camera trap data, or UAV operations.
- Show that you understand spatial ecology.
- possess the ability to perform fieldwork.
- Demonstrate excellent communication abilities both in writing and speaking, and have the potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Have a strong work ethic and a lot of drive.
