Eligibility Criteria:

  • Non-Japanese Nationality: Candidates cannot be nationals of Japan.
  • Doctorate Degree Requirement: At the time of application, the candidate must hold a Ph.D.
  • Candidates must be born in or after 1980 and be 45 years of age or younger.
  • Language Proficiency: Either Japanese or English proficiency is required.
  • Acceptance by the Host Institution: Prior to application, candidates must obtain acceptance from a Japanese host institution.
  • Limited Prior Experience in Japan: Aside from brief conference or tourism-related trips, one should not have any prior long-term experience in Japan.
  • Commitment to Home Country: Recipients must be employed in their home country and pledge to return there to support national development following the fellowship.
