ISTA Postdoctoral Fellowship in Austria 2025-26 | Fully Funded

Published:

The ISTA Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2025 in Austria is now accepting applications. This two-year international fellowship, which is fully funded and offered by the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), supports exceptional PhD graduates or soon-to-be PhDs who are pursuing advanced research in science, including biology, neuroscience, mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, and related fields. Fellows work in interdisciplinary research alongside global peers and expert mentors. The program is bottom-up, meaning that applicants can suggest their own research topics. The ISTA-Fellow program is open to all nationalities and provides a collaborative and inclusive environment for both professional and personal development. A total of 10 fellows, including additional Cluster of Excellence fellows, will be chosen to work and study in Austria without financial burden.

Eligiblity Criteria :

All ISTA-supported research areas are eligible (for details, visit the official website).

Candidates must have completed at least four years of full-time research experience or earned a PhD (or its equivalent) by the application deadline.

Additionally, candidates should expect to finish their PhD prior to the fellowship’s start date.

Applicants must show that their proposed study fits with the research themes or objectives of an existing Cluster of Excellence (COE) program in which ISTA is involved in order to be considered for a COE-Fellow award (see the Guide for Applicants here).

Only after obtaining a copy of the diploma or evidence of a successful defense will a fellowship contract be granted.
