The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Fellowship 2026 in Japan is currently accepting applications. International researchers can spend six months conducting research at Japanese institutions thanks to this fully sponsored fellowship. Anytime between June 2026 and March 2027 is when the fellowship can start. The MIF Fellowship encourages international goodwill and academic collaboration by supporting researchers from around the world who wish to further academic research in Japan. All countries are welcome to apply, and there is no application fee. Additional information about eligibility and the application process is given below. The program offers a variety of financial rewards.
Eligibility Criteria :
- All nationalities are welcome, with the exception of Japanese nationals.
- Before applying, candidates must obtain approval from a Japanese host institution.
- When applying, a Ph.D. (Doctoral Degree) is necessary.
- Candidates who were born in or after 1980 must be 45 years of age or younger.
- Either Japanese or English proficiency is required.
- With the exception of brief trips for conferences or tourism, applicants should not have previously or currently stayed in Japan for an extended period of time.
- Upon completion of the fellowship, candidates must be employed in their home country and pledge to return to further the development of their country.
