Taiwan Fellowship 2026 (Fully Funded)

International researchers and academics, including those living in the Czech Republic, who are interested in undertaking study in Taiwan are encouraged to apply for the Taiwan Fellowship 2026. With an emphasis on the social sciences and humanities, this esteemed program is run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and is intended to promote scholarly research on Taiwan, China, the Asia-Pacific region, cross-strait relations, and Sinology.

By inviting international professors, researchers, and doctoral candidates to do research at Taiwan’s top universities and academic institutes, the Taiwan Fellowship, which was established in 2010, seeks to enhance international intellectual interchange. Taiwan’s foreign policy, Asia-Pacific geopolitics and regional security, cross-strait relations with China, disinformation and information warfare, global supply chains and economic diplomacy, science and technology policy, Sinology, or Chinese studies, are just a few of the many research topics that the fellowship supports.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Foreign nationals (not Taiwanese citizens) are required.
  • ought to be academics or researchers with backgrounds in the social sciences or humanities.

Those who occupy any of the following roles are eligible to apply:

  • Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Assistant Professor
  • Post-doctoral Investigator
  • Student or Doctoral Candidate

One or more of the following areas must be the focus of the research:

  • Taiwan research
  • Relationships across the divide
  • Chinese society or politics
  • Regional affairs in Asia-Pacific
  • Sinology.

Benefits:

  • Research funding per month:
  • NT$60,000 for Senior Researchers, Associate Professors, and Professors
  • NT$50,000 for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, and assistant professors
  • For applicants coming from Europe, one round-trip economy-class ticket reimbursement up to NT$60,000
  • During the research stay in Taiwan, group accident insurance was offered, and it included:
  • Accident insurance coverage of NT$1,000,000
  • NT$50,000 in medical coverage for accidents
  • A flexible study term that must be continuous and ranges from three months to a maximum of twelve months
