Asia in the World Fellowship 2026/27 (Fully Funded)

The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is currently accepting applications for its fully funded 12-month Asia in the World Fellowship 2026/27. The fellowship is organized into three stages and runs from October 2026 to October 2027. Leiden University in the Netherlands will host the first six months, after which there will be a three to five month placement at a co-host institution. IIAS in Leiden is where the last stage will be held. The purpose of this fellowship is to encourage creative scholarship and cross-border cooperation by inviting scholars from around the world to study Asian Studies. We invite students from all academic fields to apply for this unique opportunity. Complete information is given below.

Eligibility Criteria :

  • All nationalities are encouraged to apply.
  • aimed at scholars worldwide in their early to mid-career stages.
  • By February 15, 2026, the thesis defense must be finished with formal university confirmation, or a PhD is necessary.
  • Candidates must arrive during the first week of October 2026 and be available for the complete fellowship period, which runs from October 2026 to October 2027.
  • Candidates must get official discharge for the entire term of their employment if they are currently working.
