Applications are now open for the 2026 OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Programme, launched in 1997 by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. This fully funded, four-week fellowship will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, during June/July 2026.
The program offers intensive training on the United Nations system and its mechanisms, with a focus on human rights and indigenous peoples’ issues. It aims to empower participants to support their communities and organizations more effectively.
Training will be offered in five languages: English, Spanish, French, Russian, and Portuguese. Fellows are selected by former participants of the programme. The fellowship covers all expenses, including international airfare, living costs, and basic health insurance.
Eligibility Criteria :
- Applicants must be of Indigenous origin; non-Indigenous individuals are not eligible.
- There are no age restrictions—candidates of all ages may apply.
- Selected fellows are expected to share the knowledge gained by training other members of their Indigenous communities upon return.
Candidates must be officially nominated and supported by their Indigenous community or organization, which should be well-established and broadly representative.
