Master’s students, PhD candidates, and postdoctoral researchers have a fantastic opportunity to undertake social science or humanities research with an African concentration through the Nordic Scholarship Programme 2026. The program, which is hosted by the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden, is open to all applicants, regardless of citizenship, who are connected to research centers or universities in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland. The scholarship covers a month-long stay at NAI, which includes networking with researchers, access to the organization’s vast collection on modern Africa, and mentoring from NAI hosts. Benefits include round-trip airfare, free accommodation in central Uppsala, office space with computer facilities, 1,000 free photocopies, and a daily subsistence stipend of SEK 400. This fully financed scholarship, which is extremely competitive yet rewarding, supports study on Africa in the Nordic region.
Eligibility Criteria :
- must be enrolled in a postdoctoral research program, PhD program, or Master’s program in the humanities or social sciences.
- It is not necessary to be a citizen to be associated with a university or research facility in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland.
- African societies, politics, history, or related topics must be the main emphasis of the research.
