PI Applications are being accepted for fully financed Master’s and PhD programs in ecology and evolutionary biology at the University of Arizona in the United States, according to Sabrina McNew. The University of Arizona Scholarships offer a $22,000 yearly living stipend, healthcare, and full tuition coverage. The McNew Lab is a vibrant, cooperative research team that uses a variety of techniques, including field ecology, genomics, immunology, and statistical analysis, to study birds, their parasites, and diseases. There are funded projects available, such as an MS job (beginning January 2026) co-supervised with Sabine Tebbich (University of Vienna) that studies Philornis parasitism and nestling wellbeing in the Galapagos. Candidates should speak Spanish or German at an advanced or native level and have a strong interest in conducting fieldwork abroad.
Eligibility Criteria :
- possess past experience dealing with parasites and/or wild birds; specialized technical knowledge is not necessary.
- Have a strong conceptual grasp of evolutionary biology and ecology.
- exhibit an awareness of graduate-level research expectations and be able to articulate compelling research proposals.
- Be self-driven while appreciating a cooperative and encouraging study setting.
- demonstrate a close connection between their areas of interest and the McNew Lab’s current work.
