International students are invited to apply for the Japanese government-funded 2026 MEXT Scholarship at the Institute of Science Tokyo. For chosen Master’s and PhD applicants, this esteemed award offers full tuition coverage, flights, and a monthly stipend of JPY 148,000. The MEXT Scholarship, which is awarded via the University Recommendation route, helps deserving international students who want to study science and engineering at the Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo). The program, which is run by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), seeks to promote academic excellence and international research collaboration. Top candidates from Science Tokyo’s International Graduate Program (A) (IGP(A)) are recommended for this fully funded MEXT Scholarship opportunity.
Eligibility Criteria :
- A GPA of 2.30/3.00 or more in the most recent degree program is required, along with exceptional academic achievement.
- must be a citizen of a nation that has diplomatic ties to Japan.
- must be under 34 on April 1st of the first year of the MEXT Scholarship term.
- must be a graduate of a Japanese university or have intellectual aptitude that is on par with or better than that of a Japanese university graduate.
- The applicant’s subject of study should be appropriate for research at Science Tokyo and either identical to or closely connected to their prior academic experience.
- must exhibit fluency in the English language.
- must be able to reach Japan by late September or early October, two weeks before to the commencement of the third quarter.
