The Aquatic Ecology and Systematics Lab at WKU is now looking for an M.S. student to support ongoing investigations on the systematics and conservation of Plecoptera (stoneflies) through a fully paid research assistantship. The lab employs a combined molecular and morphological methodology. Fieldwork, specimen sorting and identification, laboratory preparation, data analysis, thesis construction, scientific presentations, and publications will all be undertaken by the chosen students.
Eligibility Criteria :
- A bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in biology, ecology, or a closely related discipline (such wildlife and fisheries, environmental science, etc.)
- The required minimum GPA is 2.75/4.0.
Preferred Requirements:
- Interest in studying stoneflies in particular
- Strong work ethic and self-sufficiency
- familiarity with field-based education
- An overview of freshwater research
- Proficiency in molecular biology methods, such as PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Knowledge of ArcGIS
