DAAD-JSPS Fellowships 2026, Japan (Fully Funded)

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, in partnership with the German Academic Exchange Service, is offering a distinguished international research opportunity called the JSPS Fellowships 2026 (Short-Term). Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Hold German citizenship or have permanent residency in Germany
  • Be affiliated with a recognized university or research institution in Germany
  • Have a confirmed host institution in Japan
  • Submit a well-developed and detailed research proposal

For doctoral candidates:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program
  • Expected to complete their PhD within the next two years

For postdoctoral researchers:

  • Must have earned a PhD within the past six years

Restrictions:

  • Japanese nationals, including those with dual citizenship, are not eligible
  • Applicants who have previously received a standard JSPS fellowship cannot apply again

Benefits:

Monthly stipend:

  • Doctoral students: approximately 200,000 yen per month
  • Postdoctoral researchers: approximately 362,000 yen per month
