One of the biggest continent-wide programs aimed at enhancing Africa’s potential for agricultural innovation, education, and development is the TAGDev 2.0 Scholarship Program 2026–2027. This fully financed program supports postgraduate studies in agriculture, rural development, agribusiness, and food security at twelve African institutions. It is run by the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation. It is intended to produce qualified professionals who can help improve rural populations’ quality of life and change Africa’s agricultural systems.
With a focus on inclusive access and leadership development, TAGDev 2.0, supported by the Mastercard Foundation, is widely acknowledged as a revolutionary scholarship program in African higher education. RUFORUM, the implementing consortium, is a network of African universities that promotes collaboration in agricultural training, research, and innovation to address the continent’s development challenges.
The program is particularly important because it strengthens agricultural education systems, enhances food security and rural development efforts, expands opportunities for students from marginalized backgrounds, builds a strong network of future agricultural leaders across Africa, and encourages graduates to apply their knowledge toward sustainable development and economic growth within their home countries.
