Matsumae (MIF) Fellowship 2027, Japan (Fully Funded)

The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Fellowship 2027 in Japan is now accepting applications. For chosen candidates, the six-month fellowship period might start at any time between June 2027 and March 2028. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a citizen of a country other than Japan.
  • Hold a Ph.D. degree at the time of application.
  • Be 45 years of age or younger.
  • Be employed in a full-time position in their home country.
  • Intend to return to their home country after completing the fellowship.
  • Possess adequate proficiency in English or Japanese to conduct research effectively.
  • Secure acceptance from a host institution in Japan prior to submitting the application.
  • Have no previous history of long-term residence in Japan (short-term visits for tourism, conferences, or similar purposes are permitted).
  • Demonstrate outstanding academic qualifications and a strong record of research achievements.

  • Recommendation letter from the applicant’s employer or institution.
  • Soft copies of academic transcripts and degree certificates/diplomas.
  • Invitation or acceptance letter from a host professor or researcher at a Japanese institution
